Microscopic Endodontics and Reendodontics
Endodontic treatment includes the treatment of the inside of the tooth, or in layman’s terms, the treatment of the tooth root canals. Endodontic treatment is needed if a pathological process (inflammation or necrosis) is detected in the tooth marrow, whether as a consequence of extensive caries or as a result of injury.
Long-term delay in the treatment of caries may result in severe damage of the tooth marrow and the infection in the root cavity. Simply put, endodontic treatment means the treatment of the inside of the tooth.
The purpose of endodontic treatment is the preservation of a non-vital or dead tooth and the prevention of further inflammation inside the dental root. After successful endodontic treatment, the most important thing is the high-standard cleaning, widening, disinfection and perfect filling of the root cavity, only possible with the use of a microscope. A surgical microscope is absolutely essential for modern dentistry and its use permits the preservation of teeth that would otherwise have to be extracted.
This intervention is very demanding for the dentist as well as for the patient. Endodontics requires experience, patience, manual dexterity, time and expensive tools and instrumentation. However, it is a painless treatment performed exclusively under local anaesthesia.
