About the treatment

Protecting your teeth from grinding and clenching

Bruxism is the unconscious clenching or grinding of the teeth. It often happens during sleep but can also occur during the day. Over time the strain can wear the teeth down and lead to sensitivity, cracks, sore jaw muscles or tension around the jaw.

The splint is made individually to fit your teeth. It forms a protective barrier between them and helps spread the forces of clenching more evenly.

When a bruxism splint may be the right solution

  • Grinding at night

If you or your partner notice that you grind your teeth at night.

  • Frequent jaw clenching

If you clench your teeth without realising it during the day or under stress.

  • Worn teeth

If the enamel is wearing down, your teeth are getting shorter or your fillings keep getting damaged.

  • Tense jaw muscles

If you wake up with pressure, tiredness or pain around the jaw.

  • Sensitivity and small cracks

If your teeth show signs of overload that may call for extra protection.

  • Protecting dental work

For some patients a splint can help protect crowns, veneers or other restorations.

How the splint is made

Every splint is designed individually. It is not a one-size-fits-all device but a solution fitted to your bite and the current state of your teeth.

  1. 1) Examination and consultation

The dentist assesses your teeth, bite and jaw muscles, and looks for signs of overload.

  2. 2) Digital impression or scan

We take an accurate record of your teeth to make your custom splint.

  3. 3) Making the splint

Using that data, a splint is made to fit your teeth precisely.

  4. 4) Fitting and check

We check comfort, stability and contact, and make fine adjustments if needed.

  5. 5) Follow-up visits

As needed, we monitor the splint and your symptoms and recommend next steps.

What to expect

The aim is to protect your teeth and reduce the strain on them

A splint does not remove the cause of bruxism in every patient, but it can help protect your teeth from its effects. The result depends on your condition, regular use and, where relevant, the dentist’s further advice.

  • Protects your teeth

Helps limit direct tooth-to-tooth contact and further mechanical wear.

  • Less strain

For some patients it can help ease uncomfortable tension in the jaw.

  • Made for your comfort

The splint is custom-made to be stable and as comfortable as possible to wear.

Doporučuji🤝

Velmi milý a ochotný kolektiv. Chodíme moc rádi. 🤩🫠

Frequently asked questions

Common signs include worn tooth edges, jaw tension in the morning, sensitive teeth, or a partner noticing grinding at night. A dentist can assess it more reliably during an examination.
Usually yes — the splint only protects your teeth while you are wearing it, and grinding mostly happens during sleep. The dentist will advise how often and how long to wear it based on your condition.
The splint is made to fit your teeth, so it should sit firmly and comfortably. It may take a few days to get used to. If it presses anywhere, we will adjust it at your check-up.
A splint does not remove the cause of bruxism in every patient. It does protect your teeth from its effects and, for some patients, can ease tension in the jaw muscles. We will agree the next steps with the dentist.
How long a splint lasts depends on how hard you grind and how you care for it. We therefore check it at your regular check-ups and adjust or replace it as needed.
